Well trained property lawyers continue to be in high demand across Australia, though particularly in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, and Burgess Paluch Legal Recruitment has been highly active in this space filling property vacancies at all levels of seniority and at leading boutique firms through to top-tier firms with a national or international presence.
Despite each state/territory having their own legislation with respect to property law, it is an area where we assist lawyers moving from city to city. We also see some lawyers leveraging off their property law experience to move into other areas of law – especially construction law, infrastructure and projects. The recent high demand for property lawyers with at least 2 years of post-admission experience continues, and we’ve assisted a number property lawyers at strong boutique firms to land roles in much larger property practices at mid and even some top-tier firms, such is the state of the market.
We often see property lawyers specialise in areas such as property developments, leasing and even conveyancing and this can reflect the size of the firm’s property law practice. A junior property lawyer might focus solely on small scale conveyancing servicing individuals on the sale/purchase of the residential property, while a property partner in a large commercial firm might act for private and institutional owners and investors, developers, tenants, government entities, on several large scale projects and in doing so also deal with a number of other practices within the firm including construction, infrastructure, banking & finance, projects, planning a& environment and corporate.
Hence, as a property lawyer the market remains particularly favourable for those with 2+ years of post-admission experience. Burgess Paluch Legal Recruitment have been particularly active placing property lawyers, particularly in Australia’s major cities, and if you happen to work in this space we’d be happy to discuss our current opportunities with you.
