The market for corporate and commercial lawyers across Australia – particularly in the major cities of Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane, and Adelaide has been interesting in recent years. Sydney has led the way with a very hot market – good commercial and corporate lawyers have been in short supply, conversly, the corprate lawyer vacancies available are increasing. Lawyers returning from London and Hong Kong are being welcomed back with open arms.

Melbourne has also been enjoying an improving commercial and corporate market. Some of the top tier firms have been recruiting at all levels, as have some of the premier boutique firms in the Melbourne CBD.

Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide have been quieter, but there are still very good options for lawyers with suitable skill-sets. Perth in particular suffered a major setback with the mining boom coming to a dramatic end some years ago. But even there, a flood of exciting new boutique firms have cropped up, and an impressive array of international firms have opened offices and are looking to fill their commercial lawyer vacancies.
