It’s a time of rapid change and a new legal marketplace. While there is uncertainty in the recruitment market, there are also some extremely positive opportunities for astute lawyers with a range of backgrounds and skills to transition to new roles. Lawyers with quality experience, and those in certain practice areas are still in demand, and as recruiters we are actively searching for particular clients who are less effected than others.
We have been contacted by a range of lawyers who have been effected by COVID-19 at their particular firm when the rest of the market is not – even lawyers whose practice areas are in demand have been partially stood down. Partners with clients have also contacted us to say that firm-wide profit cuts have in some cases not taken into account their personal performance. We also have in-house clients still searching for quality in-house counsel lawyers, and government hiring continues.
Astute lawyers are also using this time to position themselves for their next move. While this is a new market for everyone, at Burgess Paluch we have advised lawyers through the tech bust, seen out the GFC, and our senior consultants are well placed to advise on how to make the most in this difficult market.
